Bucked Up Pre Workout Review (2024) – Still Worth the Hype?

bucked up pre workout review

In recent years, Bucked Up pre workout has exploded as one of the top choices in the entire supplement industry. As someone who’s been using pre workout for the last 3-4 years (and probably dropped about 1-2 thousand dollars on supplements) I can say this is one of my absolute favorite pre workouts.

Right off the bat, some of the top benefits that come from taking Bucked Up Pre Workout that I noticed almost instantly were:

  • An increase in mental focus
  • Greater pumps and blood flow from nitric oxide production
  • More intense workouts
  • Extra energy

I vaguely recall taking bucked up pre for the first time about 2 and a half years ago. I was in the gym (and had forgotten to take my pre before) and my friend came up to me.

“Hey Hunter! You NEED to try this pre workout” he said to me. I had seen the classic Bucked Up deer logo before, so I figured I’d give it a try. After all, it was blue raz flavored so I couldn’t say no to that.

After mixing it up with some cold water, my energy levels went up, and I had felt like I had just discovered some new good pre workout to pick up from the store. I had to personally test this and see if it was better than other pre on the market.

My experience has been nothing but good, and today I’d like to share it with you all. Now, don’t just take my anecdotal evidence as a reason you should take it, let’s dive into what the company all about.

Bucked Up Company Overview

It’s pretty interesting how Bucked Up grew to be such a giant in the supplement space. 4-5 years ago, NOBODY had even heard of them, and now, people think you’re crazy if you haven’t tried their products. The company was founded back in 2016. It’s funny thinking about how fast time flies, huh? Eight years already!

Bucked Up originally started out to revolutionize the supplement industry, with products with clean energy drinks that genuinely help the users. Let me tell you- they’ve done a pretty good job at that already. Of course, pre workout supplements are the main thing that they’re known for, but Bucked Up also sells protein powder, energy drinks, creatine, and more!

The founders of Bucked Up are the siblings, Ryan and Jeff Gardner. A little quick fun fact, I met one of the owners Ryan at a lunch about 4 months ago. What he told me was that Bucked Up originally started with the purpose of making a better pre workout experience for all users. This meant great pre workout flavor, wouldn’t destroy your overall health, along with better training sessions.

The supplement space is very questionable with additives, phony products, and whatnot. Bucked Up, on the other hand is quite transparent with their supplements. Everything is third party tested to ensure quality product and safety. Transparent labs are key in verifying that the products are safe.

Now, let’s go into what exactly Bucked Up’s offers. Their main product, Bucked Up Pre Workout is known to maximize blood flow, increase athletic performance, and also uses deer antler velvet extract to boost recovery. This results in long lasting energy that won’t make you crash halfway through your workout. One of the most popular pre lines that they have is the woke af- (my favorite flavor at the moment is breezy blast).

What really makes Bucked Up stand out is their transparency along with their fitness educational platform. On their website, they educate their customers WHY the supplements will be good for them, as opposed to just hard marketing to make sales. Bucked Up even has free workout plans that you can use. On top of that, they’ve got a massive presence in the fitness influencer space online, with a wide variety of influencers sponsoring them.

As for the growth of Bucked Up, it’s been nothing short of extraordinary. For the longest time, pre workout (like woke af) was their main product line, but ever since they expanded they’ve grown like crazy. From protein to nootropics, and even gym gear, they’ve got just about every gym goer needs. (Which was a very smart move if you ask me).

Their current reach is global, shipping to numerous countries all over the world. A brand that came out of Utah valley 8 years ago is now shipping products to the United Kingdom.

Now let’s go over the nitty gritty details of Bucked Up pre. Right off the bat, get ready for some decent caffeine intake, because that’s where the majority of the energy comes from.

Here’s a quick rundown of the pros and cons:

  • Caffeine Content: Just the right amount to give you a solid boost without going too crazy. Of course, with products like woke af and mother bucker you’re going to be well over 300 mg, but with the regular pre it’s 200 mg per serving, which is roughly equivalent to two cups of coffee.
  • Deer Antler Velvet: This is a unique ingredient. It’s believed to aid in muscle recovery and improve overall performance. I personally can’t say I’ve noticed a difference, but others on the internet have. Remember, genetics play a pretty large factor in determining what works for you.
  • Beta-Alanine: This is an amino acid that is essentially the building block of protein. It’s an indirect way to build more muscle, but the biggest benefit from beta alanine is face tingles depending on if you like it or not.
  • No Proprietary Blends: Bucked Up is very transparent about what’s in it. You know exactly what and how much of each ingredient you’re getting.
  • Taste: Comes in a variety of flavors that are generally well-received. It’s not just effective but also enjoyable to drink.

  • Beta-Alanine Tingling: This can be a pro and a con, depending on how you view it. If you’ve never had it before, you’ll experience a tingling sensation from the beta-alanine. It’s harmless but can be a bit odd if you’re not used to it.
  • Price: Bucked Up is a bit on the pricier side compared to some other pre-workouts, but they run deals quite often so it’s not a huge deal, especially considering how transparent they are.
  • Limited Flavors in Certain Countries: While they offer a ton of flavors, not all are available in every country, and some do get discontinued.
  • Might Be Too Strong for Beginners: If you’re new to pre-workouts, the caffeine content might be a bit much. The 200 mg in their regular pre workout is pretty standard across the board, but definitely don’t go with the Woke AF, BAMF, or Mother Bucker if you’re new to pre.

Overall, Bucked Up is a solid choice if you’re looking for a pre workout to up your training, boost athletic performance, and feel more energy from your pre. One scoop is honestly all you need, don’t try what the influencers on TikTok do by scooping 4 doses of pre. Those are just ineffective doses. Nutrition experts would have a field day with that .

Just keep in mind that there will be beta-alanine tingles and a big power output from the caffeine content if you’re not a regular user. Also, they do have a weight loss energy drink called LFG Burn and a product called Long Range to increase endurance if you’d prefer the non stimulant variations.

Now it’s time for the story behind why this article is being written. My Bucked Up pre workout review. As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been using Bucked Up for about two and a half years and I have nothing bad to say about it at all.

In fact, quite the opposite. It’s one of my top 3 choices on the best pre list.

Now, there are different types of blends that Bucked Up offers. Here’s a quick rundown-
  1. Bucked Up: This is the original formula designed for everyone. It contains 200 mg of caffeine per serving, which is a pretty moderate amount suitable for most people.
  2. BAMF (Badass Mother F*cker) Pre Workout: This variant is a nootropic-infused formula, designed for those looking to boost cognitive performance during training. It has a higher caffeine content of 333 mg per serving.
  3. LFG (Let’s F*cking Go) Pre Workout: This is suited for those focusing on heavy lifting and strength gains, LFG contains 300 mg of caffeine per serving. It gives a powerful boost, great for intense workouts.
  4. WOKE AF (Wide Open Kinetic Energy – Advanced Formula) Pre Workout: This high-stimulant option is for those needing a solid energy boost. Like BAMF, it also contains 333 mg of caffeine per serving and is best for those with high caffeine tolerance.
  5. Mother Bucker: This is like trying pre again for the first time, I kid you not. In fact, I might even write a new review on it because no other pre workout supplements can really do this. This has 400 mg of caffeine per serving (300 mg regular caffeine + 100 mg delayed-release caffeine).

My Experience

When I first started using this pre workout supplement, I was a football player so I needed to lift to boost athletic performance and increase my muscle growth. Other serious athletes can also use Bucked Up pre workout, but definitely not before a game!

It was quite a popular supplement amongst my friends, and they were the ones to introduce me to it initially. The very first time I took Bucked Up’s pre, I immediately felt a surge of energy in my body. It was like trying pre for the first time again!

After my workout was finished, I ran over to GNC (not the place to get the best price haha) but I wanted it so bad that I was willing to pay a little more. I actually picked up the blood raz flavor in the Woke Af blend.

It didn’t take me a long time to figure out that one scoop was all I needed. My exercise performance was through the roof the first week and continues to be to this day. Of course, I use many different blends, from Woke AF to BAMF to make sure my body doesn’t build up a tolerance.

Ingredient Analysis In Pre Workouts

I don’t care what your favorite influencer gooroo says, ingredients in pre workout are the number one thing to look for.

Here’s a quick rundown of what you should be looking for:

  • Caffeine: For energy, focus, and endurance.
  • Beta-Alanine and Creatine: For improved muscular endurance and power.
  • BCAAs and EAAs (Essential Amino Acids): To support muscle recovery and growth.
  • Nitric Oxide Boosters (like L-Arginine and Citrulline Malate): Improve blood flow and pump.
  • Nootropics (such as Alpha GPC and Huperzine A): For enhanced focus and mental clarity.
  • Natural Anti-Inflammatories (like Curcumin): To aid recovery and reduce muscle soreness.

As someone who’s used pre workout for a very long time, this is my personal list of what I look for. If it’s missing something here and there that’s OK- but the dream blend has all of those.

A big controversy recently is whether or not this supplement should contain creatine. Personally, I don’t care whether it does or not, but most of the time I prefer my pre without creatine and here’s why:

Creatine is something that’s best taken after you workout. Studies show it’s more effective then. On top of that, some pre’s contain weird doses of creatine, such as 2.5 mg. This just throws your regular creatine intake off because you either get too little, or too much.

With Bucked Up, they sell creatine on the side so you can take it separately, which is what I recommend you all do for maximum convenience and gains. Remember, this is not a dietary supplement, it’s meant to simply make your workout better. It doesn’t replace basic nutrition. With a lot of these supplements out there, you can find ineffective doses that just don’t help you.

With that being said, let’s take a look at this pre workout supplements ingredient profile. Due to the fact that there are many different Bucked Up blends, the standard one will be shown here.

Citrulline Malate (6,000mg)

The purpose of citrulline malate is to maximize blood flow and increase citrulline absorption. Citrulline Malate an amino acid that boosts nitric oxide production, leading to awesome pumps and enhanced oxygen and nutrient delivery during workouts. This supports improved workout performance and muscle growth.

Beta Alanine (2,000mg)

Known for the classic body tingles, Beta Alanine enhances training performance. It helps buffer acid in muscles, increasing endurance for serious athletes. Regular use can lead to improved muscle strength and workout performance.

Caffeine Anhydrous (200mg)

Classic caffeine, giving us all more energy, sharpening your mind and also alertness. This moderate caffeine intake is ideal for sustaining energy levels without overstimulation, making it a solid pre-workout choice for maintaining energy levels during workouts.

Alpha GPC (200mg)

A nootropic that enhances cognitive function and mental focus, crucial for a quality workout experience. It also contributes to improved power output and muscle strength, essential for athletic performance.

Taurine (100mg)

This amino acid supports nerve growth and reduces blood pressure, vital for overall health. Taurine also plays a role in increasing endurance and long-lasting energy, which is great for prolonged training sessions.

Himalayan Rock Salt (100mg)

Himalayan rock salt is packed with trace minerals, it helps in hydration and balancing electrolytes, highly important during workouts. It’s a natural source for maintaining fluid balance, and supporting exercise performance.

Deer Antler Velvet Extract (50mg)

A unique ingredient for recovery, and also Bucked Up’s main unique selling proposition. This is often talked about in pre workout reviews for its potential to get rid of muscle soreness.

AstraGin (25mg)

AstraGin helps with ingredient absorption, making sure that you get the most out of each scoop. This component is key to helping increase citrulline absorption and other nutrients, amplifying the effectiveness of the best pre- workout supplement.

ActiGin (25mg)

Works to increase energy production at a cellular level. This contributes to increased energy and reduced inflammation, aiding in quicker recovery post-workout and better training performance.

Bucked Up Flavors

Now let’s talk about the pre workout flavor. There’s almost too many to talk about so I’ll cover the main ones, along with some of my personal favorites.

  • BKFC Punch – Lemonade
  • Buck Berry
  • Koala Freak – Aussie Fruit (Peach/Mango)
  • Koala Freak – Piña Koala (Strawberry/Pina Colada)
  • Cherry Candy
  • Sour Bucks
  • White Gummy Deer
  • Blood Raz
  • Blue Raz
  • Breezy Blast (Pineapple/Cranberry/Rum Cocktail)
  • Caramel Apple
  • Grape Gainz
  • Gym N Juice (Citrus Blend)
  • Killa OJ
  • Miami (Strawberry/Mango/Pineapple)
  • Rocket Pop
  • Sour Gummy
  • Strawberry Kiwi
  • Strawberry Watermelon
  • Swole Whip (Pineapple/Mango/Vanilla)
  • Watermelon
  • Watermelon Lemonade
  • Pink Lemonade
  • Blue Raz Lemonade
  • Piña Colada

Some of their discontinued ones were great as well, such as green apple jolly rancher, cotton candy, and more. On that list, my personal favorite is Miami, with Pink Lemonade, White Gummy Deer, and Rocket Pop following pretty close behind. (Pink lemonade is the most common).

They do use artificial sweeteners, but that isn’t an area of concern due to the fact that most companies do anyways, and they’re not harmful.

Where to Buy Bucked Up Pre Workout

Check Price on Amazon

So, where do you buy this? The best price is usually found in the Bucked Up warehouse or retail store, but the online website is quite nice as well, especially when they run sales.

Amazon unfortunately sells about 2 varieties of flavor, not even from the actual Bucked Up manufacturer. You can also get all blends directly from the website, from Woke Af, to LFG burn.

Other online sources such as Vitamin Shoppe, GNC, and Nutra Shop all sell it as well. I recommend getting it from the actual website to avoid ridiculous hidden fees.

To sum everything up, I cannot recommend using Bucked Up enough. Their brand origin stories, transparent labs for manufacturing, amazing flavors and powerful blends make this a top tier supplement everyone should add to their arsenal.

If you’re an advanced user, try Woke AF or BAMF, although I will say Woke AF is my personal favorite blend.
